RE: Being a considerate RV owner

Sheese! What a friendly RV welcome to a potential new member! Of course the OP is correct, to dawdle along while cars stack up behind you, even tho with your big rig, even tho you are a VIP is just plain ignorant! I always pull over as soon as possible if I have a few cars, or if even one car has been following and cannot pass. I drove school bus many years ago and also then pulled over when possible to let traffic by. Lets just remember that we all put on our pants one leg at a time whether it is in a Prevost or a bread truck conversion. I really do believe that the tollerance and friendliness of the board has declined since a few years back. Well Said

RE: Being a considerate RV owner

Hey...If you ever catch me going 10-15MPH UNDER the speed limit, it is your responsibility to pass me. If you are number 20 or 50 in the line, blame it on number two in line. If #2 driver doesn't pass me, then #3 likely won't be able to. And so-forth. One of the most dangerous drivers is #2 in a line that does not pass. Blame it on that driver. No reason why #2 in line cannot find a safe place to pass someone 10 to 15 MPH under the limit. How do you pass on a curvey mountain road with lots of oncoming traffic? even if you are car #2

RE: Being a considerate RV owner

At times, I wish I had a sign on the back of the rig I could light up. That would say: I see you back there. Yes I know you to pass As soon as I can pull over safely I will. Rideing my bumber does not help either one of us. JMHO

RE: So if you lost your job................

Hard call. I would have a serious talk with myself. and deceide what I want to do. not what others think I should do I am 53, I have run my own business for thirty years. I plan to work until I am 70. Here are my conclusions from my talks with myself. 1) If I reteried now I would be bored to tears. 2) Family time is much more important than money. 3) I take 6 weeks plus off a year, is it hard on the pocket book? You bet, see reason #2. 4) Some of the most unhappy people on the planet are the retired. We are like dogs we all need something to do. Some folks do well in retirment, I would not be one of these. 5) So many times folks work like dogs, saving, scrimping for that mythical retirment only to die what good was that? 6) Spend time with kids. They grow up quick. So in general I guess I am living more for the next 17 years and enjoying life now, rather than waiting untill I retire. I would try in your case, if I were you, to find a job or start a business that matched those goals. But that is just me. and may not be what you want. JMHO

RE: Otis got a DUI last night

re-reading your post. I think, at the arrainment on monday, He would plead not guilty, then if he chooses, retain a lawyer and plead guilty later. I don't think folks normally plead guilty at the arraiment. But not a lawyer don't know for sure. JMHO

RE: Otis got a DUI last night

JMHO. But, I would plead guilty alright, but I would retain a lawyer. They tend to know the ins and outs of the system. And could probably help with temp license etc. And help you navigate through the process.

RE: Don't know how to help my parents anymore (long)

Camperoo. JMHO. but your dad has his pride. Although live in help etc is a great idea. Until he is ready (and he will be at some point) their is not much you can do other that offer support. And be prepared when he finally comes to that. As for your mom, she may not be eating becuase narcotis suppress appetite. Long term she has to want to help herself. Although extremely difficult getting out of bed is the first step. Swim areobics, massage, light chiropractic, walking all would be good. But staying in bed not good. I sure she is depressed, who would not be? Old saying in medicene it takes 5 min to write a prescription and an hour not to. JMHO I wish you and the family the best.

RE: draining atwood water heater

Ok as far as I can tell the TPT vavle in a atwood is a brass wraped with nylon. So as far as using a brass petcock that would seem to be a negative. As it is not wraped. Super camper says he never pulls the plug. Eblenthen says you must to drain it all the way, and mentions sediment. But my question is as I said in the post. I opened the low point drains, let it drain then pulled the water heater plug. There was no water to drain. So can we get buy with the just opening the low point drains? Wish the dogone spell check would work!!

draining atwood water heater

I have an 01 coachmen. I have always pulled the plug to drain the water heater. ( atwood ) As we camp 5 or 6 times during the winter, this gets a little old. However, as an experiment today, I did not pull the plug, just the low point drains. Then I pulled the plug no water was left to come out. I wonder any reason I should continue to pull the plug? Am I missing something?

RE: Advice on our first Class C purchase

As a Guide for pricing: Low Nada, No Options... I pretty much agree. At least half way between NADA low and average. Some folks will not lower the price becuase they are upside down. Payed to much to start with. IMHO get what you want the first time. Most expensive way to buy anything is twice. And MH's are like buses wait 5 min there will be another one along. Take yout time. One reason folks pay to much for cars etc they get tired of looking. Heck if getting a great deal was easy everyone would do it. And IMHO do not take a second on your house to buy a toy like a MH. Everyone talks about the cost, but what is never mentioned much is the concept of usage. If you actually use it, you will get your money out of it. On my 33K cost mh which we bought 4 years ago, if we lost it tommorrow, we would have gotten our money out of it, in fun enjoyment and memories. JMHO!!!

RE: Advice on our first Class C purchase

IMHO. I would start with do you want to spend 25k or 50k. Best buy is 3 or 4 years old. I would avoid the one with the leak history. Sometimes they just come that way from the factory. I would not get hung up on brands. Winnie, fleetwood, coachmen, forest river sometimes not much different. I would go with the floor plan you like best. We paid 33k 4 years ago for a 24 coachmen, 2001 with 5k miles. Payments are pretty low, so I don't feel like we can only take vacation with it. As for should you buy any? All I can say is for us we have gone seen and done many things we never would have without it. From Alaska to Airizona To the Dakotas. And many many great weekends and shorter trips. And what the hey, you never see an armored car behind a hearst!! JMHO

RE: Spaciousness Hype

For us at least I would say yes spaciones is hype, along with the fixed bed thing. Although we do have on slide on a 24 which is real nice to have. I say that for us it is hype becuase 1) We are travelres, not stay put campers. 2) We view a MH as a hard sided tent, rather than a hotel room. 3) We very much enjoy the freedom a smaller rig gives you explore. IE: wonder what's up that dirt road ? Or lets stop at that roadside attraction with little parking. 4) If you lose 6 ft for fixed rear bed, a 24 has about the same interior room as a 30ft. But that is just us. I would think you should first deciede why you want a MH, and what is it you want it to do for you. That will guide your choice on size, slides and beds. JMHO Please forgive my spelling as spell check on the site seems to be down

RE: IRS issues

Got a friend who, several years ago, withdrew IRA money before retirement age and didn't bother paying the taxes on it. And he did this more than once. Also, has not filed income tax (small income) for the last 4 years. He's making a decent income in 2008 and will be filing April 2009. He's scared to death to come forward to the IRS and clear this up as he figures he owes $200,000. I keep telling him it's not going to be pretty if they come after you. A retired accountant gave him advice to file in 2009 and just wait and see if anything happens. He says there's a chance the IRS will have let this one slip through the cracks, and there's a 10 year statute of limitations on this stuff. What say you? Unless, He was in a coma for the last 5 years, He deserbes every thing the IRS can dish out. He Lied and cheated. To benefit himself. What part of not filing income tax and the IRA penalty did he not get? WHY do I have to pay my taxes on time if he does not?

RE: Travelling to Canada

JRBOB, your posts 1 and 2 when looked at together, make ZERO SENSE. In post 1, you describe Americans being "victimized" becuase they LIED to Canada authorities. Your second post has absoulty no relation to your first post. I again restate my IHMO. Full of CRAP

RE: Travelling to Canada

With respect, your post is CRAP!!! I have crossed the border maybe 200 times. They always ask do you have a firearm. If you answer no, and they find one who's fault is that? what exactally do you expect them to do when YOU LIED TO THEM? JMHO

New one on me. Airbag dash light flashing code

Who Knew. Airbag dash light flashing 4 times, pause then 6 times. Turns out that means a loose connection under the driver's seat. Found the answer on the web, Fairly common for fords it sounds like. In my case I'm sure it came from storing coach manual under driver's seat and stretching that connecter. Unplugged and re-plugged all is well

RE: Phone book vs Internet

In looking at the results for "chiropractor Burien WA 98166," the first thing I would click on is the link that says, "11 reviews" next to the link for Collins Chiropractic. And after I read that, I'd go to the link for the 5 reviews for the next place. On the other hand, I'll admit that my eye was caught by the first link over on the right since in addition to the name it said, "Named one of America's BEST Chiropractors." I'd want to know right away who did that naming: Was it a national professional organization, or some magazine, or his mom? Well actually Joanne. not my mom, rather, consumer research council of America. Although I'm sure mom would agree. LOL. www.drronfulton.com (that's me not Mom) Thanks Everyone for your help. Here are my conclusions. 1) We for 30 years have been 90% plus referral. But that extra 10% really helps. Don't care if you are a Chiro, Dentist or an auto mechanic. People move die etc. 2)Phone book is pretty much dead 3) google has about 75% plus of the market. The others share the rest. 4) Thought about putting 30 years in practice, rather than, named one of America's Top Chiro's, But I think it makes me sound to old for the younger folks. 5) Not really trying to "grow the practice" just maintain it, and as I said that extra 10% helps. 6) your opinions on both my "tagline" and website are welcome. 7) Thanks All Doc

RE: Phone book vs Internet

OK, would you try a low budget experiment. Go to Google Search for chiropractor Burien Or chiropractor Burien WA 98166 Which listings would you click on? Name 3 Please do not click on the link as that is a charge every time that happens 3 to 5 dollars per click

RE: Phone book vs Internet

THANKS for all the reply's, keep them coming please!!!! 2nd question,(1) Do you look at the links on the right hand side, of the google page, or only the ones in the center? And (2) And which one do you click first? And (3) If you don't click on the right column at first do you generally get around to it on page 2 or 3? Thank you again, this is a very big Help

Phone book vs Internet

Trying to decide where to put our advertising dollars. Could you help out a little bit? Let's say you wake up Monday morning with a tooth ache, and you need a dentist. And for some reason, maybe you are new to the area or you don't know anyone who goes to a dentist. (so no referral is possible) 1) Would you be more likely to search the Internet on the phonebook? 2) Which search engine would you use? Google, Yahoo, Msn ? 3) What is your age group? Under 40, 40 to 60, 60 plus? Thanks for your time Winnietrey
